Emil Stodola

The book Emil Stodola and the Self-Government of Slovakia (1918 – 1938) addresses one of the most discussed topics of the interwar period – the constitutional and administrative status of Slovakia in the 1st Czechoslovak Republic, through the eyes of the lawyer and politician Emil Stodola (1862 – 1945). I was asked by author to work on the full book design of this academic publication.

A typographic blend of Baskerville's timeless serifs and Open Sans's clean lines crafts a visually harmonious dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Stark black and white photography anchors the design, providing a historical lens that heightens the narrative’s authenticity.
The book’s academic precision is visually structured through a clear hierarchy in its table of contents, chapters, and indices, ensuring a digestible flow for complex material.
